“And when they had opened their treasures, they presented gifts to Him: gold, frankincense, and myrrh.” Matthew 2:11
Renowned as one of the most prized and precious essential oils, Frankincense has extraordinary health benefits. In addition to its notoriety in the New Testament, the Babylonians and Assyrians would burn Frankincense in religious ceremonies and the ancient Egyptians used Frankincense resin for everything from perfume to salves for soothing skin. This centuries-old knowledge contributes to the modern uses of Frankincense today. It’s soothing and beautifying properties are used to rejuvenate skin and help reduce the appearance of imperfections when applied topically. As the king of oils, Frankincense is known to support healthy cellular function when used internally.* When inhaled or diffused, Frankincense promotes feelings of peace, relaxation, satisfaction, and overall wellness.
I love love love this oil and have applied it to Sully since he was 3 months old. I place a drop on the crown of his head when he is going through something and i need some calming too (i smell it as i feed him). I also have a roller blend of Frank and On Guard topped up with FCO (Fractionated Coconut Oil)which is apply to the bottom of his feet and down his spine every day but more when he is going through a leap of sorts. As it supports healthy cellular function, i love that i can support his system as it changes and grows and this oil helps to break down dead cells and flush them out, which puts less strain on the lymphatic system. I also used this oil after his vaccinations to help to flush out toxins in the vaccines and help restore his cells!

Volatile frankincense oil is home to esters, sesquiterpenes, diterpenes and monoterpenes like alpha- and beta-pinene, sabinene and d-limonene. It also contains actanol, bornyl acetate, linalool, octyl acetate, incensole and incensyl acetate.
The monoterpenes and sesquiterpenes are the most valuable elements of frankincense oil. According to the “Reference Guide for Essential Oils,” monoterpenes help eliminate toxins from the liver and kidneys, and possess a stimulating and soothing effect. Some monoterpenes are capable of delivering antiseptic, antibacterial, antiviral, anti tumor and expectorant properties.
Sesquiterpenes may cross the blood-brain barrier and help stimulate the limbic system of your brain — usually around the pineal and pituitary glands — by raising the amount of oxygen in it, and promoting secretions of antibodies, endorphins and neurotransmitters.
So, as you can see, Frankincense has been around for thousands of years and has been used therapeutically for just as long. doTERRA’s Frankincense is sourced from Somaliland and Oman, which is where it grows best. They have an amazing relationship with their farmers and their story is beautiful. I will post the sourcing video.
Emotionally
Frankincense is know as The Oil of Truth. By connecting the soul with its inner light, this oil reveals the truth. It creates new perspectives based on light and truth. It also assists in spiritual awakening and helps an individual feel the love of the Divine. When one has felt abandoned or forgotten, Frankincense reminds them that they are loved and protected…like a hug in a bottle!!! Frankincense shields the body and soul from negative influences and assists the soul in its spiritual evolution.
Companion oils: Melissa, Manuka, Myrrh, Litsea and Roman Chamomile
HOW TO USE
I personally use this oil internally by placing a drop on my thumb and pressing it to the roof of my mouth to calm a busy brain or to ease any head tension. It is also great blended with Jojoba, Sweet Almond oil or FCO and applied to the face and body for blemishes and stretch marks. Inhaled, this oil will calm the mind and open the heart! Frankincense is known to be amazing for inflammation and therefore Arthritis (blend with Lemongrass and Wintergreen for extra support).
This is also an amazing addition to a hospital bag for an expectant mum. I will be writing about this in a separate post so check out Pregnancy and Labour in my Categories once added!
